The group embraced each other as they came together, the two adults wrapping the three Vessels in a group hug. “Children!” Quirrel and Hornet exclaimed in unison, rushing toward the gaggle who in turn started running towards them. Then suddenly from the shadows came three figures, their pale shells glowing faintly with soul as the pitter-patter of small feet became audible. “What do you mean?” Quirrel asked, feeling uneasy, whether because he evidently was blind to what Hornet was referring to or if he was worried that she was hallucinating, he wasn’t sure. “Can’t you see it? It looks almost like…arcane markings.” “You are seriously telling me that you do not see the lights?” Hornet insisted. “If you are pointing at something, I’m afraid that it’s still as dark as it has been for however long we’ve been here,” Quirrel said with a touch of exasperation. “Over there, do you not see it?” Hornet whispered. Quirrel immediately looked around in vain for the source of Hornet’s sudden alertness, but it was still as pitch dark as ever.Īfter a few tense seconds of nothing happening, Quirrel dared to inquire in a hushed voice, “what is it…?” “Shh!” Hornet hissed, stopping so abruptly that Quirrel nearly collided with her backside. He sheepishly tugged at his hood, feeling a bit foolish. Quirrel blinked, realizing that he had been on the verge of hyperventilating. “Quirrel, calm yourself,” Hornet snapped, “we’ve only been walking for four minutes!” By his estimate based on the speed of which they were walking (roughly 3.1 mph) and the number of steps which he had counted, he reckoned that they had traveled no less than 354 meters- but what if they hadn’t actually been moving at all? They should have come across a wall, a change in elevation or something! What if for this entire time they’d been stuck in place, walking no-where for wyrm knows how long. Quirrel’s current count was at 500 and rising.
He had no idea how long they had been walking, (hand in hand so as not to lose each other), and had no way of telling how far they went other than counting their footsteps. Honestly, Quirrel had at first agreed with her, but now he was having some serious doubts. That is the tenth time you have said as much.” Hornet replied flatly.Īfter Hornet had explained her sudden revelation about the severity of their situation to Quirrel, she had reasoned that staying in one spot and waiting for rescue would be of no use. “I do not think this is a good idea,” Quirrel voiced for the tenth time since he and Hornet had started walking.
It burst through, shattering the mortal shell to pieces as the full force of the Void’s will came forth.Įight eyes opened, glowing with cold emptiness, and like just like that. The Vessel acting as a mere conduit to the ancient power that was the Void was too small to hold it any longer. It was like something within them was fighting its way out- clawing their innards with lances of cold and setting their very being on fire all at once. This felt more akin to when they had gone through the harrowing process of their first metamorphosis.
They felt their shell crack and split down the middle, though when they had first committed this shedding of their shell to project themselves into a Voided form, it had been a quick and clean break.
Ghost, their shell cracked and bleeding, facing down the radiant being in all her glorious sunrise, used the last dregs of their waning strength to channel the Void through the Void’s Heart that resided within their being. Now, they were calling upon the very Void itself to snuff out the Radiance for good. Last time, the young knight had called upon the shades of their deceased siblings to aid them in their battle to entrap the Radiance within the eternal depths of the Void. Though as pure and as lethal their mortal weapon may have been, It was not enough to take down the Goddess of Sunlight and Dreams alone. Ghost had fought the blinding Light they tore and sliced and slashed with their nail. An eternal battle against Darkness and Light.
